Bank Prospecting

Went to the bank today looking for the Harrison and Tyler presidential dollar coins and the teller said she didnt have those and
then she said...." i have a bunch of halves"....
Me: "hmmm....nah i think ill pass...."
Teller: " Are you sure, i have about $27.00 worth....here are some."
I looked at them and i could tell they were clad.
Me: "Im sure ill pass..."
Teller: "Well, how about these?"
She then pulls out four 40% halves.
Teller: " I think these are the silver type"
Me: " Hey! I'll take those. do you have any more?"
Teller: " No...thats all i have of the silver type, my daughter sometimes collects them."
Me: " Well if you save them for me, I can come by on Fridays and pick them up."
Teller: "Sure, i can do that."

So...i got $7.60 worth of silver for $2.00.
With more to come.

as a half hunter, always take whatever they offer. Sometimes what they're showing you is not all they have to offer. They may have more in their tray, in their storage below, other tellers trays, the vault. If you refuse them up front, you'll never know.

i gave it up after i literally went through about $800 of halves with nothing found. it was a bitch to turn back in 1600 rounds.

I went to the bank yesterday looking for silver and the tellers tipped me off that an elderly woman had just been in asking if they excepted the old silver dollars.

I'll be going back to the bank on Monday to see if she brought them in.

fingers crossed.

i think some banks are more likely to receive coins from the general public than other banks. if it's newer coins from another bank, probably not. if it's someone depositing their cash from a retail business ... maybe ?

I find it fun spending them back into the economy. Nice conversation starter, especially if you get the hot cashier:wink:

as per my sig, Forbearance is one of the keys to this type(or any for that matter) of prospecting.

Forbearance = forbearing conduct or quality; patient endurance; self-control.

I highly doubt it.

Nice going newmisty! Getting silver at face is a rush. I wish I could get boxes of halves at the small community bank where I live. But, 2-3 a year I snag a 40% or a 90% out of the tellers coin trays. I still get the biggest kick out of it! I bet you do too.

LOL< Oh it feels so nice to be on the other side of these words...In fact I have said the same thing in the other Prospecting thread a while back! Being hated never felt so good loL!

I have been half heartedly trying (pun intended) to score some boxes for a year and a half(pun not intended). Looking forward to seeing what this second box has...

I'm sure that most wont be like his one so I am indulging in basking in the glory!

I still get off when spotting the silver in the tellers trays or finding one in change though. :)
